Duran was born in Chicago but moved to Mexico when he was only one year old. He moved back to Chicago when he was eight.
When he moved back to Chicago, he only spoke Spanish so he struggled in school. However, he learned English, persisted and went on to college at the University of Illinois where he graduated at the top of his class. After college, he attended law school at Michigan State University on a scholarship. By his last year of law school, he was the Class President. While in law school, he also served as Vice-President of the Public Interest Law Society and as the liaison for the Hispanic Law Society and for Phi Alpha Delta.
Now, he dedicates himself to providing the very best and most compassionate legal representation to people who have been injured as a result of someone else’s negligence or fault. He says about his decision to work at Willens Law Offices, “When I met Willens, I immediately discovered that we had something in common – we both truly enjoy making a difference in people’s lives. When he asked me to join his team, I said without hesitating – Absolutely!”
Duran speaks fluent Spanish but when asked if that is what led to Willens’ hiring decision, Willens said, “While it is a great plus that he is bi-lingual, I hired him based upon his credentials, work ethic, attitude and personality. I’ve been in the personal injury business a long time and I know what it takes to be top-notch. He’s got what it takes.”
Since joining Willens Law Offices, he has hit the ground running. He handles a wide variety of personal injury and wrongful death cases from car and truck accidents to medical malpractice to work site mishaps. In his short time at Willens Law Offices, he has already been involved in obtaining the firm’s clients some very favorable outcomes, including a $500,000.00 settlement for a man who suffered serious leg injuries in a motorcycle accident.
He also takes great satisfaction as a role model for young Hispanics and other kids in the Chicagoland area. For instance, he somehow finds time to volunteer some of his personal time to being a mentor and guide for a Juvenile Mentoring Initiative Program.
Duran’s story is one of hard work and determination. But it’s also a reflection of his ongoing desire to succeed no matter what obstacles are placed in his way. Duran has accomplished quite a bit for someone so young, and it’s really just beginning.
Willens Law Offices is proud to have Octavio Duran, Jr. as part of its team of professionals who fight for fairness, truth and justice.
