On November 5, 2020, our client flew into Chicago O’Hare with the intention of visiting her son who had just gone off to college. She was very much looking forward to a weekend filled with family laughter, and new memories surely to be cherished. Unfortunately, what she received were scars of a traumatic evening that left her with a severely injured cervical disc (neck). While on a city-contracted shuttle bus from her terminal to the rental car lot, the bus operator lost control of the vehicle. The bus, that our client was a passenger in, side-swiped one vehicle, jumped the median, and eventually collided with a tree. Our client was violently thrown into the air and onto the ground.
After filing a lawsuit, the Bus Company’s insurance carrier attempted to undermine our client’s injury, deflect blame, and even went so far as to petition the court for a dismissal of the case altogether. Through aggressive litigation we were able to uncover invaluable pieces of evidence including the video, an internal complaint the bus operator made to his superior about his late hours, and testimony from several employees about the culture of negligence that existed throughout all levels of the company. Partner David Baez stated “thankfully this company is no longer in the business of transporting people and their patterns of continual negligence will no longer be able to hurt others.” As a result of our relentless approach, we are proud to have secured this $475,000.00 reward.
