Willens’ client was hit by a truck, whose driver ran a stop sign. As a result, the client suffered an above-the-knee right leg amputation.
On August 5, 2012, Willens & Baez’ client (name withheld for privacy purposes) was enjoying a motorcycle ride with his wife, his son and some good friends. What started out as a lovely weekend morning ended up changing this family’s lives forever! Willens’ client was hit by a truck, whose driver ran a stop sign. As a result, the client suffered an above-the-knee right leg amputation. He has been through multiple medical procedures and spent months in hospitals. His medical bills are hundreds of thousands of dollars and he has not yet been able to return to work as a truck driver.
I was invited by the family to the hospital to discuss the case. They were candid and informed me that they had interviewed other top-tier firms as well but had not yet made a decision. I spent some time with the family and I felt we developed a bond. They hired me before I left the hospital. Maybe they hired me because of my firms’ track record of success. Maybe they hired me because they liked that I was a straight shooter – there are some serious problems with their case and I didn’t sugar coat things. Maybe they hired me because my dog is a Boxer and they have two themselves. Who knows? Regardless, I left the hospital that day feeling a tremendous responsibility to do everything I could to help these very nice people.
I filed a lawsuit in McHenry County, Illinois (where the accident happened) on behalf of the husband and wife. Not surprisingly, the lawyers for the truck driver did not accept accountability right away and pointed to my client as the cause of the collision. However, now, less than a year from the collision, we are in the last stage of wrapping this case up. From a legal perspective, we’ve done our job for this family. However, they need more help.
On June 15, 2013, there will be a fundraising event at Trax Tavern & Grill in Deerfield, Illinois. $20 at the Door will get you pizza and beer. Let’s not forget, there’s a Blackhawks Stanley Cup game on TV for your viewing pleasure. There will be a spectacular silent auction and raffle as well.
One of the greatest parts of my job as a personal injury lawyer is that I get to lend a helping hand to people in need. Each case is unique and sometimes our clients need more help than we, as a law firm, can give. This fundraiser will add some help in getting our clients’ lives back on track. Hope to see you there!
